Pigeon proofing for solar panels in Maidenhead and Windsor
This is a relatively new problem and pigeons have discovered that the underside of solar panels is the ideal place in which to nest, with the widespread use of roof top solar panels on domestic properties, the pigeon population is now growing with demand for these nesting sites soaring.
The underside of solar panels makes an ideal habitat for feral pigeons to nest in as they are likely to be fixed on the south facing side of the roof which will be the warmest place, combine this with overhead protection from rain, snow, strong winds and predators and you can see why so many people are having problems with pigeons.
We can seal off the void underneath the panels through the installation of a modern system called Probird; this is an adjustable stainless-steel fence that is glued to the edge of the panels. Guaranteed for ten years these are the best deterrents available and superior to the older metal wire mesh system that we used to use.
Once the system is installed its usual for the birds to hang around for a few days but once they realise that they have lost the roost they will move off leaving you free to enjoy peaceful mornings and a lot less mess.
Bird net installation – the ultimate form of pigeon proofing in Maidenhead and Windsor
The installation of a correctly fitted bird net is without doubt, the best deterrent against any species of birds and not just feral pigeons, these nets come in a range of different mesh sizes; for feral pigeon control the size of each square is 50mm by 50mm. Bird nets are made from ultraviolet stabilised polypropylene and when fitted correctly they have a working life of well over ten years.
Netting is extremely versatile and can be used in a vertical position, horizontal or diagonal, and we install these nets to keep birds from roosting and nesting. They are frequently installed in places like the underside of loading bays (horizontal position) where the birds will rest on the steel trussing, defecating down onto workers and vehicles below. We also install netting to surround roof top air conditioning plant and because we have a solution for just about any problem, we can build a frame (vertical position) to encase machinery that stands on a flat roof without the need for drilling into the roof membrane.
We also supply and install bird nets that are strung across the open face of balconies on domestic flats, it’s now common to find that pigeons will move in and begin nesting immediately on balconies, with our netting we can keep the birds away from your home and create a safe, clean environment.
Bird spiking and bird coil
Pigeons will perch on the edge of roof parapets and along coping stones, when you have large numbers of these birds congregating together, a lot of bird faeces will get deposited down the face of the building and onto the surface immediately below. Not only is this unsightly but the buildup of guano on the floor can become a slip hazard and create a health and safety issue.
As well as being unsightly the droppings are slowly damaging the structure of the building; bird faeces are highly acidic and this material is slowly eating away at the surface that it covers, from concrete and stone to paintwork and wood, all this material is being corroded.
Spiking will not deter the birds once that they are nesting, and these systems are best installed as soon as you notice pigeons starting to rest on the site, many buildings that have never had a problem with pigeons suddenly find themselves with a resident flock and you need to install a deterrent quickly before the birds settle and start nesting as they will become difficult to dislodge.
Bird spikes come in a variety of cross sections from extra wide through to narrow, there are two types of spike: a plastic one and a stainless steel one. We only ever use stainless steel as the plastic ones can break off rendering their installation useless.
Post and wire systems
Post and wire systems work in a similar way to the spikes, and this is installed to prevent the birds from perching; with post and rail, a metal wire is tensioned and held in place by metal rods along the area where the birds like to rest. The one advantage of post and wire is that it has a low visual impact, and this system is best used on the front face of older buildings that have a high degree of architectural detail.
Many of the older buildings that you see in our high streets and town centers have ornate finishes and a high level of architectural detail and these will be fitted with post and rail systems to prevent the birds from sitting and defecating down the front of the building..
Bird mite fumigation
Here at All Aspects Pest Control, we have a background based in general pest control, and we don’t just provide pigeon control services; these birds carry tiny parasitic mites these can become a problem especially after a flock has left an old roost either as a result of human control or just because they moved away on their own accord.
Some species of birds like starlings will nest together in small groups for a limited period and when they leave the site in late summer, they leave behind hundreds of hungry bloodsucking parasites. These will make their way down into the interior of the property where they start to bite us and despite their small size, they pack a painful bite!
We are able to provide a fumigation service for all areas affected by bird mites; lofts spaces and other void areas killing off the mites in minutes with our fogging machines; a strong insecticide is blown out as tiny micro particle’s and these travel throughout the environment on air currents and thermals filling the void and killing off any mites present.
Balcony renovation in Maidenhead and Windsor
One of the biggest problems with pigeon faeces are that the matter is highly acidic and will quickly start to eat away at surfaces that they accumulate on, any surface including metal, stone, concrete and even wood will start to corrode under this organic mass. This is especially applicable where wooden decking has been fitted to form the base of a domestic balcony, an adult pigeon produces around a kilogram of droppings in a month and this material quickly builds up and forms a dense mat of waste material that is eating away the wood.
Feral pigeons quickly take over a balcony preventing people from going outside onto the balcony and with the floor covered in slippery guano, the problem intensifies, so that even after a short period of time the damage to the wood means that the decking is totally ruined.
We provide a comprehensive pigeon control service, cleaning balconies, scrubbing the decking and removing the all of the pigeon poo, if the wood has become damaged beyond repair, we can take up the boards, including the subframe if there is one and reinstate brand new wood. This is now protected from the birds by a net stretched across the open face of the balcony meaning that you will have no more issues with these birds.
Your outdoor space is now clean, safe and pigeon free and as licensed waste carrier, all of the waste material is correctly disposed of and the job is complete.
Pigeon guano cleaning and waste removal
Each pigeon produces around a kilogram of guano every month and a flock of pigeons makes a lot of mess in a very short space of time, its not just the bird droppings but there’s the birds nesting material; pigeons will pick up twigs, litter and just about anything they can to make a shallow flat nest. All this rubbish is held together by bird droppings and the longer the nest is used the greater the buildup of those droppings.
Pigeons also shed feathers and so the roost area becomes littered with discarded feathers which in turn, attract their own pests in the form of carpet moths and carpet beetles. These two types of insect eat the chitin present in the old feathers and something as remote as a pigeon infestation in a domestic loft can now result in carpets and clothing inside the house being attacked by hungry insects.
Another problem with having pigeons nesting is that some of them will die in the area and these will bring in bluebottles and other carrion flies. These flies lay their eggs on the carcase and when it’s time to pupate the maggots crawl off and look to travel down into the soil where its safe. When you have a pigeon infestation inside an area like a loft, this means that some of these will find their way through electrical cable holes such as light fittings into the rooms below.
By far the largest problem of any pigeon infestation are the deposits of bird poo or guano, this matter quickly builds up and has a very unpleasant odour, when it rests on items like loft insulation or stored items, these are quickly contaminated by the toxic mass and rendered completely useless.
Pigeon guano is extremely toxic, this material contains harmful bacteria and fungus that grows and multiplies in the damp mass releasing toxic spores into the atmosphere. Cleaning up and removing pigeon guano is a service that we provide, and our technicians are trained and equipped with the best protective equipment and we carryout guano cleaning in Maidenhead and Langley for domestic and commercial customers.

Guano clean up and balcony netting in Reading
"Thoroughly professional service from both Tony and Liam - used the form on the website to explain the detail of my pigeon guano issue and had a phone call back from Liam the next business day to arrange a visit to get a quote. Kept informed throughout the whole process of the cost, when it would be done, how long it would take etc etc. Job was completed on a Saturday morning (netting for the balcony and guano removal) thoroughly professionally and they were cleaned up and finished before lunchtime. Would recommend their services to anyone with any sort of pest problem. Would give more than 5 stars if Google allowed it :)"
